Day 1: Travel to Costa Rica

Today we begin our adventure and travel to Costa Rica. Costa Rica boasts the glory of God’s creation with incredible natural beauty, diverse ecosystems, and abundant wildlife. We’ll enjoy a week celebrating and exploring God’s creation as we make friends and fellowship with others within our tour group. Upon our arrival in the San Jose airport, we will meet our Pilgrim Tour guide in the arrival hall. Our guide will welcome us to Costa Rica and escort us to our awaiting transportation. En-route to our hotel, we will enjoy an orientation tour of Costa Rica and San Jose. Once at our hotel, we’ll check-in and enjoy a welcome dinner together with time to get to know those in our group. (D)

Day 2: Tortuguero National Park

This morning we depart our hotel and travel to Tortuguero National Park. We will stop mid-morning at a local restaurant, overlooking the jungle, and enjoy a typical Costa Rican breakfast consisting of eggs, rice & beans, fried plantain, fresh tropical juice, and some strong Costa Rican coffee. We continue our journey to Guapiles, where we will meet our long boat captain and begin our river adventure through the jungle to our Lodge located at Tortuguero National Park. Keep a watchful eye for iguanas, caiman, tropical birds or a shy sloth that may appear around any bend! Upon arrival at our lodge, we will be welcomed by the staff, check into our hotel and enjoy lunch. This afternoon we visit the village of Tortuguero and have time to see the Caribbean Ocean, do some souvenir shopping, and interact with the locals. We return to our lodge in time to enjoy our dinner and a leisurely evening. Be sure to go to bed early as the birds and monkeys will be an early alarm clock in the morning. (B, L, D)

Day 3: Tortuguero National Park

We start early with our National Park guide and boat captain as we explore Tortuguero National Park. Our guide will point out the many different tropical birds, iguanas, sloths, monkeys, and caiman that live in this forest. We return to our lodge in time for breakfast. Late this morning our guide will take us on a jungle walk along boardwalk trails with a chance to see the various wildlife hidden in the jungle around us. Our afternoon will be at leisure to enjoy the amenities of the lodge on your own or you can walk along the jungle trails and observe the wildlife on your own. (B, L, D)

Day 4: Arenal

This morning we enjoy breakfast, say goodbye to the lodge staff, and travel back by boat to Guapiles where we will enjoy a typical and tasty Costa Rican lunch. After lunch, we travel a few hours along the Costa Rican countryside to Arenal. Arenal Volcano captivates the skyline and is one of the prettiest cone shaped volcanoes in the world. We will check into our hotel and have time to enjoy the rest of the afternoon at leisure. (B, L)

Day 5: Arenal Hanging Bridges Tour & Resort Relaxation

We explore the tree canopy this morning as we make our way into the Arenal Rainforest on a trail that snakes through distinct levels of the wonderfully diverse ecosystem. Our walk will use trails and a series of suspension bridges for a one-on-one experience with the flora and fauna of the forest canopy. We will hike deep into these magical tropical forests to admire nature from a distinct perspective. Cross hanging bridges with complete views of the forest canopy, and from the forest floor on well-maintained paths – a naturalist guide will point out intriguing plant and animal life. This afternoon is designed for your relaxation by enjoying not only the beauty of the area, but a thermal springs bath experience in water warmed by the Arenal Volcano. (B)

Day 6: Arenal Lake Cruise, Saltwater Crocodiles & Manuel Antonio

After breakfast we check out of our hotel and travel a short distance to Arenal Lake. We’ll board our boat and enjoy a one-hour cruise, taking time to view Arenal Volcano and the various birds and wildlife around the lake. This afternoon we travel south to Manuel Antonio taking time to stop for a lunch break. While at lunch we will have an opportunity to view the famous saltwater crocodiles from a bridge. The volcanic-sedimentary cliffs rise steeply from the shoreline, providing scenic vistas and hiking trails. During our tour, we will see several unique and beautiful beaches. While enjoying some free time to take in the sites of the beaches, be sure to watch out for the naughty monkeys that like to steal snacks, cell phones, or anything else they can get their hands on. Our afternoon will be free with time to stay at one of the beaches, spend time shopping some of the local souvenir shops, or return to our hotel and enjoy the amenities provided. (B)
