Day 1: Parkersburg, West Virginia
We travel across Pennsylvania then south into the mountains of West Virginia arriving in Parkersburg this afternoon where we spend the next three nights at the Blennerhassett Hotel. Built in 1889, this Victorian showpiece is filled with antiques and the atmosphere of the gaslight era. The hotel is registered as a National Historic Landmark, but was fully restored in 1986 to include every modern convenience. After time to refresh at the hotel, enjoy an evening of adventure aboard an Enchanted Island dinner cruise on an authentic sternwheeler riverboat.
Day 2: Fenton Glass Company
Following breakfast at the hotel, we begin a full day of sightseeing with our guide. Travel to Williamstown, West Virginia for a guided tour of the Fenton Art Glass Company. Here we view the making and blowing of glass to create everything from small animal shapes to lamps that are a real work of art. Next we visit Henderson Hall, West Virginia's finest and best preserved Pre-Civil War Victorian residence. After lunch, cross the Ohio River to Belpre, Ohio and enter a larger-than-life doll house, home of the Lee Middleton Doll Factory to watch the hand production of individual dolls. Return to Parkersburg with one more stop before arriving at the hotel, this one at Holl's Chocolates where small chocolates are made in Swiss tradition. A delicious dinner is served at the hotel followed by the Blennerhassett Music Revue featuring gospel, barbershop, and other varieties of music.
Day 3: Blennerhassett Island
After breakfast our guide leads us to the Blennerhassett Museum which contains fascinating exhibits as well as a theatre where we view the Story of Blennerhassett. Next we visit one of Parkersburg's wonderful craft shops before boarding Ruble's Sternwheeler for our trip to Blennerhassett Island State Park. Upon arrival, we receive a hot, boxed lunch before we enter the Blennerhassett Mansion. Learn about the plot by Harmon Blennerhassett and Aaron Burr to establish a southwest empire in America. Before our departure we enjoy a wagon ride around the island. Return to the hotel with time to relax before dinner is served. Later this evening we arrive at the historic Smoot Theatre for an entertaining "Dessert Tour."
Day 4: Home
Following another hot breakfast at the hotel, we travel homeward with arrival by early evening.
